POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Pioneering Evolution is seeking a Senior Java Developer to lead the design, development, and enhancement of enterprise-scale Java applications for a Department of Defense (DoD) software platform. The Senior Developer will serve as a technical leader, mentoring junior team members and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, secure, and scalable software solutions. A Secret Clearance is required, and the position is based in the Panama City, Florida area with on-site work as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the design, development, and maintenance of enterprise-grade Java applications.
Drive technical excellence through hands-on coding, peer reviews, and architectural guidance.
Optimize application performance, reliability, and security to meet mission-critical requirements.
Work with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, developing complex queries and performance-tuned data access layers.
Mentor and support mid-level and junior developers, fostering technical growth and adherence to best practices.
Troubleshoot complex software issues, perform root-cause analysis, and deploy effective long-term solutions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including DevOps, QA, and systems engineers—to ensure seamless integration and deployment.
Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, backlog refinement, and technical roadmap development.
Stay current with emerging technologies and frameworks relevant to modern Java development and DoD software environments.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
10+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on Java and C++.
Proven experience architecting and developing microservices and RESTful APIs in enterprise environments.
Advanced proficiency in SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle).
Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or similar container orchestration platforms.
Expertise in version control using Git and experience with collaborative Git-based workflows.
Strong understanding of software design patterns, scalability principles, and security best practices.
Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
All candidates must currently possess a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
All candidates must be able to pass a company background screening.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

Experience with AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, API Gateway) or other cloud platforms.
Familiarity with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or AWS CodePipeline.
Strong background in unit testing and test automation (JUnit, TestNG, Mockito).
Deep understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies, with experience serving as a technical lead in Agile teams.
Experience with messaging systems such as Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated deployment practices.
