Company overview

At Argyle, we recognize that employment data is owned by the individual it represents. By building the first gateway to employment data, we’re unlocking a dataset that has been monopolized by a single, giant corporation (name omitted, because decorum) for 70 years. In turn, we’re making it easier, faster, better, smarter for innovative companies to put employment data to work for their users, enabling access to products and services that improve lives. With a CEO & CCO in New York, a CTO in Vilnius, and team members in four continents and counting, we aren’t lying when we say that we’re a global company. And that is part of our strength—drawing on the best talent from around the world, without constraining ourselves to geographies. In other words, we care about the merit of your work, not where you work from.

Databento is a startup that builds modern APIs to get financial data. As a Series A startup, we've raised $37.8M to date, and grown our revenues by over 958% Y/Y in the past year—all with a team of fewer than 30 employees.

We're looking for a software engineer to join our team. This is a remote role that primarily involves backend development and product engineering, with optional frontend responsibilities. We're open to hiring from a broad range of experience levels (on parity with L3 to L6 at a large tech firm). You'll have an outsized impact on the company's trajectory.

We offer health, dental, disability, and life insurance benefits, as well as 401(k) matching for full-time employees. We accommodate 100% remote work, with teammates living around the globe and paid in their local currency.

Responsibilities
  • Working with engineers and product team to develop web backend and APIs for our core products.
  • Working with engineers and product team to ideate, design, and implement product features and improvements.
  • Maintaining existing web and data applications.
  • Improving performance and developer experience of our web APIs.
  • Improving engineering workflows, e.g., testing, release, deployment, QA, and documentation.
Requirements
  • Proficiency in modern Python.
  • 3+ years of work experience designing, implementing, and/or integrating web APIs (REST, GraphQL, RPC).
Nice-to-haves
  • Prior work experience at a high-growth tech startup or electronic trading firm.
  • Experience with financial data (market data feeds, time series, security references, machine-readable news) or analytics.
  • Experience working within a Linux environment.
  • Exposure to lower-level languages, such as C, C++, or Rust.
  • Experience with containerized application deployment (Docker, Docker Swarm, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with release engineering, CI/CD, and zero-downtime deployment practices (GitLab CI, TeamCity, Spinnaker).
  • Experience with database design and administration (MySQL, Redis, ClickHouse).
  • Experience with web frameworks (Django, Flask, FastAPI, Starlette).
  • Exposure to front-end web application development (TypeScript, HTML, CSS, React).
  • Experience with single-page applications and modern web app architectures.
  • Degree in computer science, applied mathematics, or a related field.
