Senior Vision Developer
Position Overview
As a Senior Vision Developer at The Nuclear Company, you will design, develop, and deploy advanced computer vision and AI-powered visual systems that transform nuclear construction, safety monitoring, and quality control. This role requires strong expertise in machine learning, image processing, camera systems integration, and real-time video analytics to enable automated progress tracking, safety compliance monitoring, and intelligent inspection systems for Nuclear OS. You'll work at the intersection of computer vision technology and nuclear infrastructure, helping to revolutionize how nuclear power plants are built and monitored.
Key Responsibilities
Computer Vision System Development
- Design and develop AI-powered computer vision systems for automated construction progress monitoring, comparing current site images to BIM models to determine completion percentages
- Create computer vision algorithms for anomaly detection, defect identification, and automated image analysis from drone and camera feeds
- Build convolutional neural network-based detection systems for automated identification and classification
- Design detection pipelines that process video streams from multiple cameras simultaneously
Camera Systems Integration & Detection
- Integrate various camera types including fixed surveillance cameras, PTZ cameras, thermal/infrared cameras, and mobile drone cameras
- Integrate AI-enabled cameras into IoT sensor networks for real-time data collection and analysis
- Create surveillance video analysis systems to detect and track work packages' components automatically
- Implement vehicle and individual tracking across facility camera networks for security analysis
Safety & Compliance Monitoring
- Implement worker tracking systems using camera-based detection for safety monitoring and emergency response
- Develop vision systems for safety compliance monitoring including PPE detection, restricted area monitoring, and hazard identification
- Collaborate with construction teams to provide updated site models, progress comparisons, and deviation detection
- Monitor construction activities for safety and environmental compliance through automated visual inspection
Robotic Vision & Automation
- Develop computer vision systems for robotic perception and autonomous navigation
- Integrate vision systems with robotic inspection and quality control platforms
- Integrate computer vision and automated monitoring for robotic inspection and quality control
Machine Learning & AI Model Development
- Train and optimize deep learning models for object detection, segmentation, classification, and tracking tasks
- Implement transfer learning and fine-tuning strategies to adapt pre-trained models for nuclear construction applications
- Develop custom neural network architectures optimized for real-time performance on edge devices
- Evaluate emerging vision technologies including foundation models, vision transformers, and multimodal AI
Technical Leadership & Innovation
- Provide expert guidance on computer vision architecture, camera systems, algorithms, and best practices
- Mentor junior developers on machine learning, computer vision, and AI techniques
- Drive innovation in automated construction monitoring and intelligent inspection systems
- Provide technical guidance to project teams and serve as a technical reviewer
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
- 7+ years of experience in computer vision, machine learning, or AI development
- 3+ years in a senior or lead developer role with demonstrated technical contributions
- Experience with construction progress monitoring and as-built documentation using visual data
Technical Skills - Computer Vision
- Expert proficiency in computer vision libraries (OpenCV, scikit-image, PIL/Pillow)
- Strong knowledge of deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras)
- Experience with CNNs, vision transformers, and modern architectures (ResNet, YOLO, Mask R-CNN, ViT)
- Experience with computer vision and machine learning for robotic perception
- Knowledge of computer vision and automated image analysis techniques
Programming & Development
- Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or similar languages
- Experience with real-time video processing and streaming analytics
- Proficiency in GPU programming and optimization (CUDA, TensorRT)
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and edge computing for vision systems deployment
- Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines
Domain Knowledge
- Understanding of camera systems including calibration, lens selection, and lighting considerations
- Knowledge of image processing techniques including filtering, enhancement, and feature extraction
- Familiarity with 3D vision including stereo vision, depth estimation, and point cloud processing
- Understanding of BIM (Building Information Modeling) fundamentals and applications
Professional Skills
- Ability to work independently and lead technical initiatives
- Strong problem-solving skills with ability to debug complex vision systems
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams
- Project management experience delivering production vision systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or related field
- Contributions to open-source computer vision projects
- Publications in computer vision or machine learning conferences (CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS)
- Experience in construction, manufacturing, or industrial automation sectors
- Knowledge of nuclear industry standards and safety requirements
- Experience with multi-camera calibration and synchronization
- Background in AI/ML product design and designing for intelligent systems
- Experience with drone-based imaging and aerial data processing
- Familiarity with edge AI hardware (NVIDIA Jetson, Intel Movidius, Google Coral)

Estimated Starting Salary Range
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $175000 - $225000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
